Financial values have not been disclosed but Sebastian Coe, who was today re-elected unopposed as IAAF president for a further four-year term, described the deal with Wanda as "the biggest single commercial partnership in the history of athletics."
Ha! I see what he did there. When is athletics not athletics?
The deal must pale with some other 'athletics' deals.

Pre is just 12 days before the start of the OT. In 2016 it was five weeks before the OT. I wonder what that will mean for US competitors? Better than "average" (read: usually excellent to begin with) Prefontaine performances? Some athletes skipping the meet? Some just setting up camp in Eugene for three or four weeks?

Interesting question....I had forgotten how early the Trials are...... . I suspect there won't be a distance night for starters.... even the middle distances could be on the short side.....of course this doesn't concern foreigners....

He means "athletics" in the British English sense. Not surprising for the head of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Other than the men's 5000, the women's 10,000, and the heats of the steeples, the other distance races are in the last four days of the Trials, so there could be enough breathing room between the Saturday night session of Pre (June 6) and those last four days (June 25-28). There could also be other events (maybe some field events) on Saturday night. At any rate, the meet's website says that there will be something on Saturday.

Also, as you point out, this doesn't concern foreigners. The last time Pre was in an Olympic year, there was one distance event the night before the main session. It was a men's 10,000 and the top 15 finishers were all foreigners. Last year, the only distance race on the evening program was a men's 2 Miles.
