11-16-2019 09:18 PMAnd what is the frequency of 50s mid-November? By comparison we have had 16 inches of snow in Madison, which is 15 more than normal, and it has been colder than any November so far that I can remember in 30 years here. Yesterday's Regional meet went off without a hitch and even last year's abnormally cool NCAA meet with a bit of snow also went off very well, and even handling 7000 people at the meet there were not any problems. I do think that Kelati and Kurgat did not care for the weather last year, but ....

11-17-2019 05:01 AMWell now. Then give yourself a pat on the back for an efficient run meet which wasn't at all what was being discussed...take a bow!!!!
The weather for next year's meet is probably not going to be unfair to the runners from the colder parts of the country which was what was being discussed.

11-17-2019 06:58 AMAaron Bienenfeld, the Cincinnati senior who won the Great Lakes Regional, will be skipping the NCAA championships so he can compete in the German under-23 nationals.
Apparently he didnt bother to tell anyone at UC, judging by their twitter feed.

Later, they issued an updated tweet stating Bienenfeld's plan to skip the NCAA meet

11-17-2019 02:53 PMJoe Klecker (Colorado) only 11th in the Mountain regional. No mention on the Buffs' website about why. Mark Wetmore usually comments if someone is little under the weather or simply holding back, saving it for next weekend. Hopefully no injury/illness.

11-17-2019 09:41 PMConference championships are nice but so close to the all important regionals you have to be careful....a friend from England son is at Boise State and they had a horrible Mountain West meet finishing 4th and her son ran poorly ....I wrote reminding her the Regional was next and I'm sure they will recover...and sure enough he ran his best race of the year...Boise was 5th in the tough Western Regional and qualified...Meanwhile 2 of the teams ahead of them at Mountain West are done.

11-18-2019 06:54 AMIn the Big Ten the conference championship is highly prized; by comparison the thing that matters at Regionals is getting to Nationals. It was a good Regionals for the Big Ten with eight teams qualifying on the women's side and four on the men's; the Pac-12 got five and four (the SEC was three and two, despite having some of the easiest Regionals).

11-18-2019 09:47 PMUCLA had a good Pac 12 meet and were nationally ranked 10th but had a lousy Regional and didn't qualify... no matter how well you do in Conference not qualifying for Nationals means, for most teams, the season was a disappointment...
OTOH qualifying makes it a great season...
