I see US year lists for 1953 and 1955 in T&FN / TN , but no others before 1957. Where would I find them?
Or world lists before 1950?
They must exist, yes?

10-19-2019 10:57 AMAnd in between there is a 4th Quercetani/Magnusson volume covering 1921-28.
The OP asks for US lists, and although there are plenty of US entries, these volumes are World Lists.
The women's lists in these volumes may be limited in depth. The definitive work on Women's Yearly Performer World Lists prior to 1963 is:

10-19-2019 02:39 PMSo the answer is 'no' for historical USA lists?
And the men's world lists are out-of-print / unavailable?
And the women's lists are also unavailable!
Well, that's a sad state of affairs for T&F statistical inquiry - not that people are lining up at Wal-Mart for T&F stat books . . . .

10-19-2019 03:07 PMyou're forgetting that in essence, there was virtually no U.S. activity after the Nationals in most years.
So, for example, if you go to the July '54 edition you'll find a U.S. list with the introduction beginning, "The 1954 U.S. season is now history...."
There may have been a stray U.S. mark or two after that I guess, but not enough of significance to warrant another list. I'm guessing that in other "missing" years (I just picked that one at random) you'll find the same mindse.

10-19-2019 04:20 PMOK, I'll go look, but isn't it a little 'concerning', esp. to a stat guy like yourself, that we don't have definitive (as much as they can be) year lists going back to at least back to the 30s,, when T&F started becoming a 'major' sport?
Edit - In 1956, when the season ended with the Nov/Dec Olympics, there is no list after it.
Edit 2 - looking at 1954, there were all sorts of 'post-season' meets with huge results from USA stars like Bright (800), Shelton (HJ), Gordien (DT-WR), Miller (JT-WR)Last edited by Atticus; 10-19-2019 at 05:03 PM.
