    The guy got them at the Nike employee store in Portland...40% discount....told him the shoes were good for 80 miles....hasn't worn them yet...

    This seems a bit at odds with some comments that one of the biggest advantages of the shoe is that it is easier on you legs in training. Not sure going through a pair a week (or faster) is consistent with that.

    And kids pay many hundreds of dollars for shoes that can only be worn occasionally and are really only for show.

    There is a training version of these things...I have a pair they are great..And a lot cheaper...no way you would train in these shoes....unless you had an unlimited supply....

    Anyways it is THE Nike store...so I think we can assume they know what they are talking about...

    But there's no reason to wear them except in competition. For a top class marathon runner, even if they have to pay for them, buying one pair every 3 marathons really isn't a issue.
