The men's winner is easy to pick ... Karsten Warholm for the greatest season ever by a 400m Hurdler - six times under 47.5 this season. The previous bests were Samba (4) and Moses (3).

More difficult for the women I think, but Brigid Kosgei would be far from the worst choice.

Agree with Warholm.
For the women. Either Kosgei or Muhammad. I would go with Kosgei because her 2:14.04 was just so out of there. Especially when you compare her performance to the men;'s race that day.

Gardiner may be a solid competition for Warholm. He was also undefeated.

Gardiner missed the diamond league final though (did he even have enough points to enter?) and he didn't face his top competitors outside of the World Champs.

Lyles is a serious contender, I think. Two WC golds (200, 4x1) and two DL titles (100, 200) is a solid resume; and this tends to be as much about "who can we market" as about "who was the best", which is good for Warholm but also for Lyles and Kipchoge.
