Chicago Marathon 2019

I'm struck, as I have been in the past, by how few people are on the streets watching the runners go by. Nothing like New York.

New York and London marathons seem to be embraced by their cities as major events within the city's calendar. I think Boston may be similar. This doesn't appear to be the case for Chicago and Paris, for example. I haven't seen enough of Berlin to judge which category that falls in.

Unfortunately, she didn't get the reception befitting of such a monumental accomplishment. You got the feel of second-rate event watching NBC Gold. Hopefully, she'll get as much coverage in the mainstream media as Kipchoge. Will ESPN feature a marathoner in its "Play of the Day" two days in a row?

Of course, the pacing wasn't nearly as contrived as Kipchoge's, but it should be noted that she ran much of the race behind two male pace-makers, and her final time was nearly three minutes faster than the recognized record for an all-women's race (2:17:01 by Mary Keitany).

I've got both Gold and that local feed open on separate tabs. That way I can watch the Gold and listen to the local commentary.

2:17 by Keitany? Don't think running against men should downgrade Kosgei's performance; will be curious to see if the next few days produces well over a hundred comments on this thread, as with the 1:59 one. Agree with LU's comment, that this is an easy pick for POY.

Shockingly fast....i mean no one else has even come close to Paula's time since she ran it....just smashed it. That's unbelievably fast.
