Big advantage for slow heat qualifiers, or no?

An advantage. I don't think it is big advantage since they have a day off before the final.

Hiltz had been quite amazing this year, Simpson seems back in top form and Houlihan seems very solid too. How will they all hold up in the final? Can't wait to see.

I know that the first semi was extremely slow, but Hassan covered the last lap in 57.0 from dead last at the bell and made it look rather easy. Iím so intrigued as to how all of the top ladies are going to approach this final.

Why not have both go through to the final? Seriously curious.

Because there are undesirable consequences if the discipline is lost of being very skeptical of advancing runners who are not impeded by a genuine foul.

Most pertinent here, an extra runner in a 1500 final overcrowds the field, affects tactics, and increases the chances of collisions/falls that will have no remedy and could involve top contenders.

There are other considerations that would be brought up by factual scenarios somewhat different than today's incident, but don't wish to take the thread too far off point.

My prediction...Houlihan will medal (bronze) Simpson will not. Hassan gold, Kipyegon silver, Hiltz 7th. I hope I'm wrong about Simpson and Hiltz.

Jenny Simpson never looks like a medalist on paper. But all she does is win medals. Until she proves this trend wrong, I will continue to pick her to win a medal in Championship races.

The lesson from the m1500 seems to be that she should have fallen, got up and finished, instead of battling to a PR.

Her WC record in the 1500 when she keeps both her shoes on is excellent.
