In terms of speed and fitness, the gap between Hassan and her competitors is so big that it would be foolish for her to run a tactical race because that would only increase her chances of getting beat, by getting boxed in, tripped, DQ'ed., etc. On the other hand, Centrowitz wouldn't have won in Rio if he had tried to run the competition into the ground, instead he would likely finished at the back of the pack.

It's a shame Muir had to put her foot in her mouth following her fine performance.

Good thing the IAAF clamped down on the DSD women who have an unfair advantage. That would have really spoiled this race.

At least Torrence was displaced from medaling by the people she complained about. And then went on to win an individual gold.

Muir finished fifth and is going home with deserved zip. So, really, who cares.

That may be true but the only reason Muir was running a suicidal pace was to try to stay with Hassan. Torrence's race plan wasn't affected by her competition.

Muir finished within a few tenths of her PB. She got beat.
