Very smart race by Coburn. If she had gone with chepkoech she would have gotten nothing

I bet she's happy with her medal. Sub-9:00 will come, but even if not, she has three global medals in an event mostly owned by the Kenyans. I'd take those credentials any day.

Agreed. I can see Coburn potentially targeting 1-2 meets mid next year to go sub 9 on a build up to the Olympics. We'll see.

Man, Chepkoech just runs that crazy fast first kilo and then it stays almost the same after that. What were her splits in the 8:44?

One wonders if Coburn had gone out a "little" faster if that would have made a difference, but probably not. She paced it very well.

Krause is some story, too. She keeps getting better and better and I really thought she was going to get silver for several seconds there. Meanwhile, Frerichs didn't quite have her 'A' game, either, but still a respectable finish.

Coburn cut the lead in half, from almost 10 seconds to 4.5. Chepkoech is not great technically but is getting better. Part of Coburn's comeback is the time gained at each barrier.

I doubt it. 8:57 is already much faster than Coburn's PB. And Chepkoech could have probably pushed it harder in the final stages had she needed to.

Re: Frierichs. I don't think you can just train your way through the summer, like BTC, and come into a championship race-sharp. Racing is the best sharpening.

I think I'd go crazy from the training with little racing, during the heart of the season. I understand wanting to peak for the big meet, but still.....
