I don't think the USA has the speed to do it this time.

I've checked and in 1983 the US went out in the heats running 44.20. The team was Alice Brown, Diane Williams, Chandra Cheeseborough and Randy Givens. That sounds a pretty decent team so something must have gone awry. There must have been a DQ or DNF since then?

Germany looked better in that 41-second race than anyone else, and passing is uber () important and I am guessing that they will spend more time on it than other top teams. Clearly Jamaica has better high-level horsepower than anyone else, but at they getting Williams back?

It's one thing running 41.6 in front of a home crowd without being pressured by other teams, and another at an overseas Champs with ET/SAFP/Bowie/Schippers/DAS etc. etc. etc. breathing down your necks.
GER certainly have the ability to run 41.6 again, and in peak form they could do a 41.5, but with 2 x 10.7 women JAM can make up meters on foot speed; GER would need to be perfect to win and hope the other teams aren't.
Also, despite a fantastic bend in that ISTAF run from Pinto, I would rather see Luckenkemper on the 3rd leg and Pinto on last. Luckenkemper has been awesome these last few seasons running the curve, and this new Pinto would be better on the last leg, IMHO.

Note, I'm not actually sure GER have practiced that much this season.
