I feel like if Preiner can hold it together in the LJ, her Javelin and 800 could be strong enough to overcome the Americans in front of her.

Unfortunately, I will be unavoidably unavailable tomorrow, so I will not be posting "instant" updates on my projections after each event. Please enjoy the remainder of the competition.

That's a shame, but I shall look forward to your summary and thoughts at the end,

We are in 2019. There IS a way to determine the actual distance, but the IAAF doesn't seem to care.

How would go about determining it now?
Anyway, if Thiam ends up losing this by a small margin, she will clearly have been robbed.

You think computers can figure out where the shot landed yesterday?

Not necessarily yesterday, but they obviously are using hawkeye to show the flight of the three leading throws in comparison graphically. I've always wondered about the accuracy of an official running across the field to measure something with a precision down to the centimeter.

I think we had this discussion before and it seems obvious it's not accurate to within 1 cm. But it's one thing to be off by a couple of cm (although even that may have an impact) and another to mismeasure a throw by over half a meter.
