Both of those guys looked so tense and nervous throughout the race. Bleeding tenths. As others have posted, once they turned into the stretch there was no chance at a special time. Warholm is never exactly fluid but this time he looked like a Rock 'em Sock 'em Robot.

All you had to do was remember how Dalilah Muhammad looked over the final hurdles in her recent world record. Feet to the ground immediately and bouncing on every step. That's what it is going to take to erase Kevin Young's record, unless the more mechanical 12 step approach enables Rai Benjamin to build a gap in front of the world record line.

I have to say a nimble athlete like Rai Benjamin doesn't seem like a 12-stepper. I view that decision as a mistake.

Regardless of the outcome I'd have to say this was the most anticipated 400 hurdles race since Edwin Moses' finale in Seoul 1988.

Rough for Benjamin who runs pr (400m) in April to be at his best in October.
Think Norman is running on fumes also. (43.45 in April)
    Fumes???
That was Benjamin's 6th fastest 400H ever. He ran 46.98 a month ago.

And remember, he is injured, so he was not in prime shape in a manner that is different than 'running on fumes' implied by some posters.

Great race! Don't care about the times!

Glad Warholm won as he's one of my favorite athletes!

well i don't place much credence on anything that happened in the nineties as far as WRs are concerned.

Covenient. Edwin Moses set the WR for the first time at the 1976 Olympics. Usain Bolt, David Rudisha, and Wade van Niekirk set WRs at major championships. Do those marks have credibility for you?

Moses broke Akii-Bua's record set at the '72 Games which broke Hemery's set at the '68 Games.

The video in this post by benjamin shows a nasty training fall that apparently caused the bone bruise mentioned above...

This event is definitely one to watch going into 2020, how often do you have #2, 3, and 4 all time competing against each other?
