This is why I love the field events. You have the possibility of this kind of drama. Obviously, this kind of performance is once every generation if we’re lucky, but the lead changes are fantastic and to have 1cm be the difference between first and third was wonderful.

Just wondering - unlike long jump and triple jump where the sand is cleared there are like a million holes where the shot puts land. Unlike the javelin that tends to stick in the ground so you know exactly where it lands the shot put tends to roll. There was only 1 centimetre between the first 3. With all said above what's the chance the measurements weren't spot on and changed the finishing places?

Good point. But without seeing it, I'd assume there are not many holes out around 23m on the Doha infield?

Looks pretty straightforward actually; Crouser #1 because he's 3-1 against Walsh. Walsh #2. #3 probably still Romani. #4 Kovacs; he has negative head-to-heads against guys like Hill, but being the World Champion is hard to ignore. Hill #5.

With the WC so late that changes the training schedule for the athletes. Seems like someone looking to peak early-October will have a difficult time throwing well June, July. Would that matter?

Winning one of the great field event competitions ever? Does the scale of the win matter?

    Wonder what Venegas is thinking.

this field was soft enough that I don't recall many puts that didn't stick

Kovacs's big put jumped a bit (backwards?) and created an oddly-shaped hole. I would not have wanted to be the man measuring it.

SP measuring is a pretty exact science on a dirt field, on a grass field like this weird stuff can happen.
