beginnings seem to have left them without the over inflated
I'd say they still had egos It's just that the industry stressed promotion because they didn't have a large --essentially white south-- public that would buy their records. They got out on the road and toured a lot.

As for "humble beginnings" I'd say D.Parton edges out L.Lynn and M.Haggard as coming from the most deprivation (so far).

Five biggest hits to cross to pop seems like: White sport coat, Harper Valley pta, Ode to Billie Joe, King of the Road, Flowers on wall (Statlers).Others obviously but I'm really not sure if they were country enough first.

This series is great. Loving it. Did not realize how revered Kris Kristofferson was among other songwriters. Larry Gatlin calling him the greatest ever lyricist last nite.

Ill take their word for it, but Kris Kristofferson never wrote anything that stirred my soul.

Ep 5 was the first I have seen. Lots of long-haired hippie freaks in it

Kristofferson is an amazing lyricist, and that was a great story about how he got into the business.

I was a C&W fanatic as a child and young adult, so I will have to catch up on the previous episodes. Will skip over Hank Williams, since I never liked him.
