Friends, I don't follow the women's side of the sport but even I know that without the track godess Miller there is no Doha worthy of being a World Championship.

What will be interesting in all of this is, how many government "officials" will turn up in Doha as spectators on the tax payers dollar perhaps even flying business class.
From the article, I would expect the minister Rolle to be absent in keeping with her speech to defend the over 100k shrinkage in the federation's allowance.
Also, Dorian will now be a huge factor.

So....Whats stopping individual athletes from just going to Doha on their own dime if they have already been entered into the meet?

I don't believe it's in the IAAF's DNA to allow athletes to free-lance. They maintain their iron grip on the sport by keeping the national federations happy, and using them as a gateway.

I believe that's a largely American phenomenon. I've never come across a European fan who would follow only men's T&F.

That's a big IF. At this point the BAAA probably hasn't submitted the paperwork, which would mean nobody's entered into the meet yet.

But Miller-Uibo may be able to force their hand by sending a lawyer to challenge the BAAA, offering to pay for her own expenses and one BAAA official, and asserting that they have no right to deny her entry to the meet after she did her part by qualifying in first place at the trials, and they can't use money as an excuse if she's paying her own way.
