Todays men's long jump competition has a pretty decent field with Echevarria, Gayle, Masso and Jefferson.

Small fields - apparently no qualifying round in the field events and even distance finals are only 12 to 15 with no trial round. I guess it is keeping the cost down. Still a two-athlete max for a country.

I wonder what the total number of athletes is? Must be well under 1000. Maybe 600?

Do they have the rule that a country with no event qualifier can still enter one male and one female - probably in the 100 meters?

Has anyone noticed a "Craig Allen" listed as a USA 1500m entry, along with John Gregorek? The sleuths over at Lets Run have noticed there isn't a eligible US 1500m runner by that name and are wondering if it's just a typo and/or messed up entry or what? I don't think Craig Engels is in the meet.

Did they mistakenly give C.J. Allen Graig Engels' spot in the 1500m instead of the hurdles?

Jordan Geist nabbed silver in the men's shot, improving from 20.16 to 20.67 on his final throw. Darlan Romani dominated with the best 6 throws of the competition, including a meet record 22.07 on his final throw. He beat the 21.69 standard of O'Dayne Richards -- 5th here today -- from 2015.

After seeing Romani at the Pre Classic, I would have been surprised if he had not dominated at Pan-Am.

The USATF press release announcing the team (before the USATF Championships) lists Engels in the 1500.
