Holloway is often a hot mess in his big races. His technique was off in DM. His coach is a hurdler-whisperer, and I think he'll be sharp again in Doha. That said, it'll be a donnybrook in the final, and, just to be the contrarian here, I see Gold for the Gator.

I was reminded of this part of the 1979 interview with Renaldo Nehemiah (one of my all-time favorite T&FN interviews)in which he talks about Rod Milburn:

"It was phenomenal how he (Milburn) could start out even and almost at will take control of the race"

    Reminds me of Roberts's race.

Roberts, Holloway, Allen.....awesome to see them battle it out going forward!
Completely agree with the upside to Roberts. When he makes the tweaks necessary to hit fewer (no?) hurdles, his times will drop significantly. Makes my Big Blue heart beat proudly.

A bit ironic that his breakthrough year happens when Floreal left Kentucky. I wonder if he will stay with his college coach. Floreal / Hayes/ Johnson will be good hurdle coaches to clean up his form though.

Excellent point. It was nice to see that at least a few of the two-legged thoroughbreds did not run off to Texas.

He and Holloway are definitely going to be the x-factors in Doha. One will medal!

Holloway has not had a particularly great post NCAA season. Is he injured or just erratic?

Neither. A summer decline is typical of NCAA medalists, especially those who have competed both indoors and outdoors. And Holloway had a bigger workload during the NCAA season than Roberts, with Holloway's long jump and 4x400 efforts on top of the 110mh, sometimes in the same meet.
