Happy 73rd birthday today (Sunday) to an Olympic champion who was born on a Sunday and won Olympic gold about 26 years later on another Sunday.

No hurdles were involved in this Olympic gold medal.

The father of this athlete was a national champion in a different event.

Our birthday athlete competed in one Olympic Games and won the gold medal on the same continent where this person was born.

Some say our birthday individual wasn't the first, but rather the last to so something in winning the Olympic gold medal.

Who is this Olympic champion with a birthday on this penultimate Sunday of July?

My guess: Jüri Tarmak, who was, I think, the last not to use Fosbury flop in winning high jump Olympic gold.

    P. S. Rosemarie Ackermann won with the straddle in Montreal, but Tarmak was, I believe the last man to win with the straddle.

Happy 73rd birthday today to Juri Tarmak and very good, Olli. Yes, Tarmak was the last man to win the Olympic high jump using the straddle (a left leg lead straddle as well). He won in Munich (1972) and his father was a Soviet discus champion.
