    Standard x-country distance in CIF-SS (Southern California) was 1.8 miles in the 1960's but bumped up to 2 miles by the time I began coaching in 1975. Then in 1976 it was increased again to 3 miles. Likewise for Mt. Sac, 2 miles for the HS course in 1975.

    That's more like it. I ran the course in the Fall of 1971.
