    Alex Parnov busted for something?
    #1
Just responding to the news story on the home page. Parnov is busted for something and quits..... Also Kurtis Marschall his latest greatest pupil hasnt jumped since April with no diamond league meets so far. Maybe he is injured? Havent heard anything though through social media. Worried its something worse like when Demi Payne mysteriously stopped jumping for a while.

The stories are reading more like an abuse of position/harassment situation than him coaching an athlete who's in trouble. I suspect an athlete getting caught for drugs would have also come out by now...

'Inappropriate behavior' was the reason given, but who knows if and what that means.

The whole Demi Payne thing was underwraps for years. I dont think there is anything funny with Kurtis. He seems like a good guy. Just been curious for a while, why he isn't jumping, then this comes out about his coach.

Given we're 2.5 months from World Champs and spending all that time in Eruope is costly and exhausting, it's completely reasonable to assume Marschall is just deep in training (most likely with Paul Burgess coaching if he's still in Perth, or Kym Simons if he's gone home to Adelaide).

Marschall was in Perth training two weeks ago.
Home to see family & friends in Adelaide a week ago.
Is in Naples (where Paul Burgess is coaching his vaulters Armstrong & Clough in Universiade) right now.

This is definitely the most likely explanation, though not guaranteed. He is known as a tough coach but I've never heard about anything beyond that.

It looks like WAIS think they may be open to future claims, so they are undertaking a CYA process, especially with:
    • A law firm specialising in employment law
    • investigation remains ongoing despite Parnov's recent resignation.
    • no complainant making an allegation and no complaint has been lodged with WAIS.

Marschall looks perfectly fine and happy judging by his Instagram photos. It's extremely expensive flying to Europe from Australia, it's expensive to stay in hotels and eat, and he is still young and not as established yet to be able to command big bucks, especially in his event. Plus he's just lost his coach!

As for Parnov, we can only speculate. We know he's a tough coach, so it's easy to jump to conclusions of bullying. He was a former Soviet athlete and has publicly talked about doping in Russia, so it's easy to go down a doping theory. The word 'inappropriate' always gives an impression of sexual misconduct, so it would be easy to jump to that conclusion. So, we just don't know yet, and it's far too easy to jump to incorrect conclusions.

I'm not sure "inappropriate" by itself is the key.

When combined with "conduct", it could be excessively free credit card use, or other administrative naughtiness, but combined with "behaviour" it is usually related to some kind of personal interaction.

But, of course, the words don't determine the facts, the facts themselve do. Given WAIS is a government body, we will know more when the investigation is complete, unless a politician will look bad, then we will never know.
