Watching this (3rd meet today!) on Flotrack and after Hoppel's 1:44.48 win, just .07 off his NCAA win PR, the announcers said he still doesn't have the school record, but I bet to differ. Ryun's 1:44.9y record is listed by USATF as 1:44.3', which adding the obligatory .14, equals 1:44.44, compared to Hoppel's 1:44.41 - at worst he's tied with Ryun!

For purposes of the American Junior record, USATF did not convert Ryun's mark. It was considered to be 1:44.9. Recall that came up around the time Brazier was threatening and then broke the mark. Also recall confirming that is the policy of TFN as well. A converted mark can appear on a top list but it cannot be the record.

However, U Kansas records are kept by U Kansas and U Kansas says the record is 1:44.3. If Hoppel wants to get on the UK record page that's what he has to do.

standard statistical procedure has never been to add anything to hand times beyond the 400/440

And UK can call it a record-tie if it wishes, which they totally should, since they are statically indistinguishable - 1:44.3*h vs. 1:44.41.
