Nigeria is about 50% Muslim..... given how few Nigerian athletes have Muslim names, is it possible that the Nigerian Muslims frequently don't have "Muslim names"?

So the entry lists on the IAAF website aren't final?

Obviously not, they added Ryo Sato (HJ), Ryohei Arai (JT) and Keisuke Ushiro (Dec), all three not on the published list.

Pretty sure no one has ever accused them of great management skills. It's not a question of whether this train runs on time; it's more about whether the train can get out of the station without major mishap.

Which doesn't negate my basic point. If done right, they could complete the process in one step, instead of the multiple iterations that take weeks to complete.

This is also a problem for athletes. Some of them probably assumed their season was over after the IAAF published the provisional lists. May have booked holidays, went back to work, whatever, but they certainly didn't spend any time getting ready for a major championship.

A couple more: Beate Schrott and Victoria Hudson from Austria also got invites today. According to the article in the Austrian newspaper, the IAAF informed federations of the very late decision to try to fill all slots now. So probably more late invites to come.
