12 British cyclists won Gold in London.
Of those Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Bradley Wiggins could definitely be called 'icons' to sports fans at least. The likes of Victoria Pendleton, Laura Trott and Jason kenny are also household names here.
Having said that the use of the word 'icon' seems to come from a French indictment and I can't imagine any of them being described in that way. Although Wiggins did win the Tour de France so may be seen in those terms abroad).
This is clearly a T&F competitor.
