I've found the same thing. Lots of spam calls show up with my area code and the first few digits of one of my home lines.

I kept my Illinois cell number in Eugene....which works out great because any call starting with Eugene area code 541 I know is legit....

Absolutely cant go wrong except that your time is worth something too and you have to choose your battles. I suspect the scammer will be unidentified by the phone number but at least the FBI will have a record and it could lead to something. Best solution is to never pick up the phone.

    Bingo!

I must say one of the simple joys of every day modern life is in not picking up the phone when someone I dont know rings.
