Facts not in evidence. Clearly, the American women draw more than the American men. Anecdotally, I know few people that are particularly interested in the American men compared to those interested in the women's team [it is a small, not a random sample so that does not mean much].

The USWNT team is waaaay more popular than the USMNT and has been for a while. The men not even making the WCup and the women winning it might have something to do with it. That may change in the future, but the women are the draw here.

Not surprising at all....as I keep saying it's like the Olympics every 4 years....the weekend sports fan loves the USA winning and then completely forget about it....if by some miracle the U.S. men won it would be the same reaction...though the genuine soccer fans would be pretty impressed....

Meanwhile MLS keeps plugging along and the women's leagues regularly come and go....because few attend....

As for the money...it's the men's worldwide tv contracts that completely dwarfs the women's...

Also for outdrawing the men part of it is the men's national teams always have to play games, especially qualifying ones, in relatively obscure places like Utah or Ohio...when they played games in places like Soldier Field in Chicago they get a lot more fans showing up supporting their opponents than the U.S. side! And rabid ones at that....the U.S. women never have that problem...

I'll watch either one when they come on TV, but the men's play is inferior (relatively, of course) to the women's. I'm sure it's the caliber of opponents, but the men always look disorganized and panicky, even when they're winning. The women look poised and confident, even on the wrong end of a score.

    This is from The Economist.

    "Net gains

Womenís football is becoming big business

As the sportís popularity grows, sponsors and broadcasters are taking note"
