Based on some of the decisions made by the IAAF, I think wtf.org is perfectly appropriate.

Since it's gotta have TF in it because 'athletics' is already taken by all sports, what's wrong with just plain old "International Track and Field" ?
    ITF
    We did it with USATF.

I suppose they were desperate to get the word "world" into their name. However, both of the 2 biggest worldwide sporting federations, the IOC and FIFA seem to do OK without it.

I think ITF would be a good name myself.

Instead they are considering World Track & Field, and checking whether WTF.org is available.
I assume this is a joke, but I hope it's true, that's the only appropriate name for the organization.

Athletics refers to all sports in the US. But in Britain, Canada, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Australia, NZ, South Africa, Japan, China, Spain, France, etc., Athletics (or the local translation) means track and field.

Problem is that in most countries in the world, the sport that we call Track & Field is known as Athletics.

Yes, but they ALL know what T&F is, whereas in many countries athletics just means sports, so why not go with the least confusing name?

    That may not be true.
