Happy birthday today (Saturday) to two Olympic champions who competed in a total of seven Olympic Games.

One of these two champions was 21 when the other person was born.

Our birthday athletes earned a total of two Olympic gold medals during their careers.

Both birthday athletes set world records.

The younger of the two won three World Championship gold medals, two World Championship silver medals, one World Championship bronze medal, and one World Indoor gold medal.

You might already know that the older individual was born 76 years ago today, but died at the age of 59.

Please name both Olympic champions.

Olli, you are good. It is Willie Davenport who was born today, 76 years ago. Some of you may remember that he passed away almost exactly 17 years ago this month at the age of 59. Willie competed in five Olympic Games which included the 1980 Winter Olympics (bobsleigh). He won the 1964 Olympic Trials in the 110 hurdles, but did not make the final in Tokyo that year. His gold medal came four years later in Mexico City and he was fourth place in Munich (1972). Davenport took the Olympic bronze medal in Montreal (1976). Willie Davenport had quite an athletic career.

Butch Reynolds?

Happy birthday today (55) to Butch Reynolds. Very good, Pego. Reynolds made two U.S. Olympic teams and won gold running the anchor leg (43.74) on the four by 400 relay in Seoul (1988). He also ran in Atlanta (1996), but did make the final in the 400.

I was in the stands of the '92 trials, after the IAAF judged Reynolds to be in violation of their drug policy and his heat had to be scheduled on the off day (something about the contamination, I do not recall the details). A big audience gave him a standing ovation welcome.

I remember the 92 OT and the Butch Reynolds drama and, yes, the crowd was on Butch's side.
I also remember it was so warm they let officials shed the blue blazers . I don't know who thought blazers were a good idea for New Orleans in June/July.
