    Happy birthday today (Wednesday) to two Olympic champions who ran the same event at the Olympic Games some 64 years apart.

    The older of these two athletes was 60 when the younger one was born.

    One of our birthday athletes won three Olympic gold medals, one Olympic silver medal, and one Olympic bronze medal.

    Our birthday athletes were born approximately 746 miles (1,200 km) from each other.

    You might already know that one of these two champions was the only person from a certain country to win an individual track gold medal at a certain Olympic Games.

    President George Herbert Walker Bush was born on the 19th birthday of our older birthday athlete and both people fought during World War II.

    It probably wouldn't surprise you to find out that one of our birthday people won three World Championship gold medals, four World Championship silver medals, and one World Championship bronze medal.

    No hurdles were connected with any of our birthday athletes' Olympic medals.

    Please name both birthday athletes for this second Wednesday of June.

    Happy 54th birthday yesterday to Gwen Torrence and very well done, thedoorknobbroke. Gwen Torrence ran in three Olympic Games (Seoul, Barcelona, and Atlanta). She competed (in Barcelona) in the same event as our older athlete did about 64 years earlier. Who is this older Olympic champion?

    Ray Barbuti is it. Very good, tandfman and thank you, Tuariki for the correct clue. Barbuti won two gold medals at the 1928 Olympic Games (400 and he anchored the four by 400 relay to a world record). He was the only American to win Olympic gold in an individual track event at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games. His two gold medals came within two days of each other. Ray Barbuti was also a fairly good football player in the United States. He was born 114 years ago last Wednesday and next month will mark 31 years since his death.
