Happy birthday today (Sunday) to an Olympic champion who was born 109 years ago today and died 14 days before this person's 80th birthday.

Our birthday athlete was born and died within 45 miles of the site where this athlete won Olympic gold.

Approximately 87 years ago, this champion won Olympic gold on a Sunday.

You may already know that our birthday athlete competed in only one Olympic Games and did not compete in any of the Olympic hurdles.

An actor, sharing the same initials as our birthday athlete, was born one year before our birthday person and this actor died about four years before our birthday athlete died.

This actor was in a couple of movies you may or may not know: "Border Incident" (1949) and "Mommie Dearest" (1981).

Please name our birthday champion for this first Sunday of June.

Perhaps it is Luigi Beccali, winner of the 1500m in 1932 at Los Angeles...

Luigi Beccali was not born within 45 miles of Los Angeles.

That's right, tandfman. Italy is more than 45 miles from Los Angeles. I can tell you that our birthday athlete's gold medal came with a world record.

Ok, it's not Beccali who won the 1500m but it must be one sprinter
of the US 4x100 meters who beat the world record with a time of 40s0.
So I think at Hector Dyer, the third man of this relay.

Very well done, jmdjmd. Hec Dyer was born 109 years ago yesterday. Of course Dyer shared the same initials as Howard DaSilva, the actor who was in the mentioned six films. Some of you know that Hec Dyer went to Stanford and gave the Olympic baton to anchorman Frank Wykoff (USC) in their winning four by 100 relay in 1932. Dyer was 22 when winning that gold medal in Los Angeles.
