Hmm. Will this impact his plan to go pro?

Carr broke Earl Bell's Arkansas State school record with his jump of 5.70 today.

Came into the meet with a lifetime best of 5.50 from last year, 5.48 SB. What I was most impressed about with his 5.70 clearance is that his first attempt he couldn't even get his toes over the bar, then makes a monster PR on his second!

Bray had a similar PR progression today, from a 5.50 last year to 5.70 today.

Gotta hand it to Nilsen. At 5.80/19-0 it looked to me like Mondo cleared it by a mile and Nilsen barely got over, making the next two height results really surprising.

I'm really impressed with Nilsen's 'moxie'.
He had to be disheartened by Mondo's huge clearance at 5.70 and yet he fought on. Mondo looked like he couldn't quite figure out what pole to be on as his hips were all over the place.

Mondo looked good. He was under a bit on his misses. Still had plenty of height but barely tapped it off each time. I think if he could've left the bar up on his first attempt at 5.90, he would've probably got in a rhythm and been okay. Nilsen rattling over 5.90 and 5.95 on his first attempts put Mondo behind the 8-ball and he couldn't recover.

Nilsen most likely NOT going pro early. He said so last year after NCAAs and his mom reiterated it again today.

Presumably Mondo will go pro this summer, if so, seems like his collegiate record has a good chance of going down next year. Nilsen took very solid attempts at 6.01, if he doesn't join the 6 meter club this year, he will next year.

One question is whether or not Nilsen would even go to Worlds if he makes the team this year. The meet is so late, it is very disruptive to school and work schedules, plus all of the fall training leading up to the Olympics.

Nilsen has to be considered as a medal contender for Tokyo now. If he isn't going pro this year, there are probably more downsides than upsides to competing in Doha.
