And just to stick up for my school, Duke did win the NCAA title in women's golf - its actually our most successful team because of the great coach, Dan Brooks. That is the 7th NCAA team title he has won with the Duke women and they have, I think, also won the NCAA individual golf title 5 times (not this year).

Stanford has 123 team titles. Duke has 16.
Stanford also has 522 individual titles to lead NCAA (USC is second with 496).
They found their niche long before anyone else did, and invested their money very wisely.

Here is a trivia. What is the only D1 school other than Stanford to have won NACDA Learfield Directors' Cup? It's not Duke for sure.

Okay, it used to be known as the Sears Cup when the other school won it. Still, it's not Duke.

Actually we've won 17 and I obviously admit Stanford has a superior overall record in sports. I guess I will refrain from making Duke / Stanford jokes on this board in the future.

Not so much invested wisely...as Atticus noted Stanford is a school that attracts top suburban female athletes from the type of wealthy high school I went to, Hinsdale Central....they have a huge advantage over a school like Oregon ....

Indeed it was...in the 1960s and 70s...with Santa Clara the top 2 high schools....we won 12 state titles in a row....and 3 Olympians including John Kinsella who got silver in the 1500 at Mexico City and still a sophomore...I swam freshman year before I went full time to distance running.

They won state a couple of years ago but not nearly as dominant as they use to be....Hinsdale Central was so good, and arrogant, that the coach Don Watson had the team wear "197x State Champions" t shirts half way through the meet.

Don't worry, Duke still has a 2-1 edge in NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted, I believe
