CAS / Caster Semenya / Nick Symmonds Video Opinion

I totally agree with Nick's points particularly since the IAAF is focusing on XY 'females.'

I like his approach and reasoning here.

He is a fantastic guy and I love his "kindness" theme. But where does the 1.7% intersex number come from. Im digging and digging but I cant find any medical survey evidence that supports that number.

Im going to guess that the actual number is much less than that.

Yeah, I think the important point for Nick was that if we are going to have to level some type of restriction to one of the two groups (intersex and 'normal' woman) let it be the one with less people in it no matter what the exact % of the former is.

Slightly off topic, but if Semenya is going to keep training and running (as she has said she will), and not take medication (as she has said she won't), I'd love to see her take some serious attempts at some 300m and 2000m races.

I don't see how it can be anything close to 1.7%.

I think I saw it reported as 1 in 2000 somewhere in the other Semenya thread. That looks intuitively more reasonable.

The 1.7% is based on a very expansive view of intersex, encompassing genital or gonadal conditions that don't necessarily cause any male/female ambiguity, such as hypospadias (urethra hole on the underside of the penis).

I like the video and what he says because he is clear, unambiguous, concise, and given the territory, emotionally composed. Oh, and he makes sense too.
