And yes, the build up to the Preakness will feature this story, along with the Pimilico Track troubles in Baltimore.
Maximum Security's owner is quoted as saying he won't run the Preakness.

Pimilico Track may be hosting the Preakness for the last time. This second jewel may be moved to Laurel Race Track, down US Route #1, in the future.

The extremely sloppy conditions in the Derby HAD to have taken a toll on the horses, yes?
Regroup for the mile-and-a-half of the Belmont.

I have no expertise here, but I'd have to guess that the jockey was indeed fighting to keep his horse inside; he had the horse with the most strength, so he certainly didn't need to run the other horses wide - he'd be giving up valuable line on the inside.
I'm guessing this suspension will be appealed and overturned?
