I always thought of him in the same sentence as Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. He and his Oriole buddies broke this 8 year old Reds fan's heart in October 1970.

A reminder about how hard it is to earn baseball's Triple Crown (scroll down for the list):

I won a ticket in a lottery for the 7th or 8th 1966 World Series game at Baltimore. Would have seen Frank? Nope! The series lasted 4 games. Sold my ticket to a fellow Army buddy at Fort Holabird.

The 8th game of a World Series is a lottery ticket I'd certainly draw and win!

Without looking, does anyone here know how many of the athletes in the 4 major American sports besides Robinson checked off all 3 boxes 1) Rookie of the Year, 2) Regular Season MVP and 3) Super Bowl/World Series/Stanley Cup/NBA Finals MVP in their careers?

    Whoa! Good question!

    Larry Bird
    Jordan
Marcus Allen! (Allen had one of the greatest 5 year stretches in football history - Heisman 81 - ROY - 82 - SB MVP -83 - MVP-85)
    Gretsky (? A guess...I don't know hockey)
    Jackie Robinson (?)

Pedrioa strikes me as a possibility, but not sure about WS results...
Ripken comes to mind - but I'm pretty sure Dempsey was MVP in 83.

Drawing a blank right now. Those are my guesses.
You there, on the motorbike! Sell me one of your melons!

Wes Unseld? I know he won ROY and league MVP in the same year, don't remember if he won finals MVP when the Bullets won the title. Along the same lines, I would guess Wilt Chamberlain.

Orr was ROY, MVP, Stanley Cup MVP, and throw in All Star MVP, SI Sportsman of the Year for good measure.
