If NO used full 30 secs for the first three downs and kick field goal on 4th down the clock would be a 28 secs on kick off to the Rams and game over.
But no the NO coach decides to pass on first down and stop clock, run a play on second down for no gain. The ball is still on the 13 yard line with 1:41 left on clock. Then the unnecessary controversy play which stops the clock and they kick the field goal on 4th down to give the Rams 1:39 secs to tie the game and send it into overtime.

NO coach needs some review on how to run the clock down and give your opponents (who only had one time out remaining) the football on the their 20 yard line with less than 30 secs on the clock.

Good analysis Jazyclist, You have NFL coaching potential
There's some comment that Brees audibled out of the first play from a run to a pass.

NFL does not call it targeting and do not have an automatic disqualification, but it is a foul.

Theoretically the Sun could turn into a Super Nova tomorrow...

The real question...will NO ever recover from this.

Sadly the game last night wasn't the first bad reffing..

They could take the Rams, the Saints, and the Patriots and play double elimination. Four more games instead of one! More revenue! More commercials!

A potential targeting call in college can be reviewed without a penalty being called per booth review.

The college Targeting rule is more encompassing than the NFL rule which focuses much more on leading with the helmet and helmet to helmet contact than the college game does.
