Lavillenie is injured, I can't recall if he will be back in time, but I think it is unlikely he will jump anything big if he does try to come back.

And what's the deal with Morgunov? He hasn't competed so far this year.

good question. It's not as if he's one who typically starts late. He had 7 indoor meets between January 11 and February 23 last year.

And he was on the IAAF's cleared list for this year.

I read it as they were still being approved to compete indoors but the applications met the eligibility requirements............

whether he's eligible or not, all 7 of last year's meets were domestic, so that wouldn't be impacted one way or the other.

I bet he has a strategy. Doesnt want to start the season too soon. After all the big meet isnt untill September.

Some of the wording would suggest that, but a few of those people have already been competing internationally in recent weeks.

Top vaulters virtually never skip the indoor season, unless there are health issues involved.

I can't find the news but I read some months ago he was going to skip the indoor season to fully heal from some small injuries which had affected him towards the end of next season. I think he didn't expect to be granted elegibility so early and EIC were never in his plans (even if without Mondo and with Lavillenie in bad shape he could be a gold medal favourite there). Nothing wrong with him, I think he will open his season in some domestic races in May.
