Maybe we need a "The New Mondo" thread for this.

Matthew Volkov, 14 YO son of former WR holder Konstantin Volkov, jumped 4.85 (15-11) this week. For comparison, Mondo's 14 YO PR was 15'7" (4.75ish). You can find video on Konstantin's Facebook page.

Matthew looks fairly tall for his age. Much taller than Mondo was at 14 I look forward to seeing how he progresses!

Konstantin Volkov was a top-class vaulter, with OG and WC silvers, but he never set a WR. Unless you mean WJR.

Volkov broke the WR at an unofficial meet in 1981, it didn't get ratified. He set a couple of indoor world bests legitimately, but that was before those were official WRs.

You beat me to it. It was 5.84 (19' 2"). Where did he rank in 1981?

Track & Field News ranked him #1 in the world in 1981 (and #2 in '80, 83, and 84).

He also beat Sergey Bubka to win the 1984 Friendship Games, the Eastern Block's response to the OG.

He easily cleared a new PR of 4.90 for 4th in the Russian U20 indoor championship. Video is on Konstantin's FB page.
