I will not participate in this destruction of the pole vault.
Hear, hear!!! I am not watching this abomination, nor will I report on it in "Al's Athletics Tidbits".

Four women over 4.70 in the vault, Nageotte the only American.
Winkler & Haugh 3-4 in the mHT.
Franklin looking OK in the wTJ.

Very much a tactical race in the w800, likely will be the same in other mid-distance events.

Yes, Franklin came through with a 14.36 on her 5th attempt for the win!

Strong late-season run continues for Josh Thompson in 1500.

And my first reaction to seeing that Athing Mu entered in the 800 and 400 was being kind of aghast (preps running track this late) ... but then she did the Youth Olympics last October and doesn't necessarily follow the tradition prep season. She was near the back in the 800 with 2:06+. Since the prep season for '19 officially ends Aug. 31, Mu now has the first major track mark for 2019-20!

Meanwhile, Sidorova scales 4.85 on her 2nd, within 1 cm of her season's best and 6cm of world lead.

That was a fun m1500 finish to watch. Thompson very gutsy to eke out the 9 points.

Technology to aid the measurements in discus can not come soon enough. I swear the portuguese athlete Rodrigues threw 61m and it got measured as 59.83. The closest official ran after the discus instead of to the mark!!
