Why is the NCAA cross-country chapionships never run in the West?
    #1
I've noticed that virtually all of the NCAA championship cross-country races are held in the midwest or east and I'm wondering why? In fact I can't think of a time when it has ever been held in the West...and I've been a fan for a long time.

    Pullman in '73 and '77, and Tucson in '86, '91 & '96

basic answer is the same as why are "all" the outdoor NCAAs on the West Coast: because the meet(s) can't go to places that don't bid for them.

Also transportation is less costly and school density is much higher in the east.

I was a spectator both times it was in Tucson in the 90’s and many runners from cold climates appeared to have problems with the heat.

In a couple of years it will be in Florida, Florida State I think (which is pretty far north in the state and not that close to either the Gulf or the Atlantic.

Tallahassee is 22 miles inland from the Gulf, if that's pertinent. Sure is pertinent when it comes to hurricanes.

Will host NCAAs in 2021. Average hi/low for a November 20 of 72/46 is pretty much identical to Tucson for the same date.

Same course will host USA qualifier for World XC on Feb 2 upcoming.

It's surprising that it's never been held in Eugene.
