The semifinals are picked and James Cleveland Owens gets to be the starter
    9 lanes

you get to add a runner to each semi
pick 4 & shortest 5th place time to move to a 9 lane final

    NOT IN LANE ORDER
    A
    BOLT
    DIX
    GAY
    FREDRICKS
    LYLES
    SMITH
    JAMES
    QUARRIE
    your pick
    B
    BLAKE
    JOHNSON
    CARTER
    BOLDON
    SPEARMON jr
    CARLOS
    MENNEA
    LEWIS
    your pick

I'll add Mike Marsh and Otis Hill. Hill was the #1 that made Larry James #2 on the White Plains High School team.

    edit --omit the relay idea--

I'm sorry, this is 2018, you need to have 3 semis, picking 2+2 :-)

If you're fleshing it out to 3 semis, then add Henry Carr (should have been there before), his OG predecessors Livio Berruti and Bobby Morrow, plus Hal Davis and Ralph Metcalfe. Then add Borzov and Calvin Smith, and finally Joe DeLoach

Looking to level the field "on all-weather tracks" was fair break point in time.
That time frame meshed up with figuring out if I could get Dianabol just by pointing at the package in a South Korean drug store 30 miles from a paved road it wasn't only a few body builders on to the tricks.
***edit to add -Hand versus Auto timed***
DeLoach lost the photo to DonQ

I thought Berruti was way cool in the shade(s) as I ran with my Imported Italian sunglasses on my 7th grade 4x220 relay team

also clearly missing from the original list is Steve Williams.

("James" be it Kirani or Larry has no place on any 200 list)

Totally agree, without Henry Carr it is not a serious list. Im sure there are more than a few from even further back that belong.

Including Walter Dix, a WC silver is borderline, including Lyles at this point is almost laughable.

Also, Mike Marsh was as good as they get.

Don Quarrie Montreal 1976, nothing quite like it and that was after a silver performance at 100m!

for a true test of a field like this the event needs to be contested on the straight, not a turn.

I disagree gh. The turn is an integral part of the 200. Straightaway 200 is a thing of the ancient past.
