That was a great race. One of my favorite competitions of the year. And the finish line photo is one of my favorite in-competition pics of the year. Congratulations to Tuohy on her victory, and congratulations also to her competitors Taylor Ewert (2nd) and Sydney Thorvaldsen (3rd), who ran with the confidence that they could defeat a competitor who had not lost an XC race in years. They made a very memorable competition, and reminded me why I enjoy this sport in the first place. In that competition each of them seems to have delivered 100% in effort and performance.

An observation about Ms. Tuohy's prep XC career. Note first this disclaimer: I am not making any predictions about, nor do I have any expectations for, Ms Tuohy's future. I hope that she remains healthy and happy with whatever she does. And with that noted: In the context of USA prep XC, she just completed the best career in this context/at this level that I can think of. Several females have won two FL or NXN titles, but I think it is the case that Tuohy is the only one to win 3. She was 13th at NXN as a 9th grader, and I think that's the last XC race she was in wherein she didn't finish first. I have never seen her compete in person, but among the few times I have seen video of her in competition, I have really enjoyed it. Same for interviews with her.

It seems important when discussing young athletes to re-state the disclaimer: I have no predictions about or expectations of future success, but rather am enjoying being an observer of an outstanding career at her current level and context of competition.

And what of Mu? She wasn't used to the Armory banking last indoor season (at least, when it came to distances longer than 400). She figures out how to run the turns, she could break 2:00.00. In any case, I can wait for outdoors to watch it happen, especially at the Olympic Trials.
