I guess it depends on what you mean by 'we'. 'Modern man' seems to have come from the Kenya/Somalia/Ethiopia area, according to most models.

70,000 BC seems a little too recent.

I am no expert and the researchers undoubtedly put a lot of thought into this but the 70,000/200,000 year scenario for worldwide distribution of "humans" evolving into so many diverse physical/racial types seems too quick to me also. And, 20,000 years seems too short a time for two massive global environmental changes effecting outward migration.
Fuzzy to me is the connection between the 200k year old Botswanians and the 2.0x million year old "humaniod" denizens of East and South Africa?
Conventional wisdom is that all modern dog breeds are descended from "wolves." Gotta think there is a seamless evolution of humanoids to humans not yet established.

when I first saw the Zambezi river valley I just knew that I was home... I could feel it in my bones !!! At the same time I look in the mirror and I see a Neanderthal looking back at me.
