Even though this is not a T&F/athletics news item -- because it is an ultra marathon -- I hope I can get away with posting it in Current Events, as this is sort of a limited weekend for Current Events items.
Camille Herron (USA), ran 100 miles in 12:42:39 yesterday, at the Tunnel Hill race in Illinois. That's ~7:38/mile pace, and obliterates the prior 100 mile world records/bests of Gina Slaby (13:45, track 2016) and Ann Trason (13:47, road 1991) by more than an hour. Slaby and Trason were, prior to yesterday, the only women to have gone under 14 hours for this distance.
This further establishes Herron as the premier women's ultra runner in the world. She won the IAU world championships at 50k and 100k in 2015, won a couple of prestigious ultra trail races in 2016 in course record times, and earlier this year won Comrades.

Moreover, she is from Oklahoma, so lonewolf probably knows her.![]()

11-12-2017 03:30 PMI can barely run a 7:38 mile these days. Can't imagine 100 of them together.

11-13-2017 02:37 AMI think she used to post here as jaguar or jaguar1. Or maybe that was over at letsrun. I think it has been a while since the jaguar moniker has posted here.

11-13-2017 11:48 AMLet's break this down further---bring it closer to the realm of T&F!
Her time was 12:42:39 for 100 Miles.
That's two 50 milers in 6:21:20 (seconds rounded up to 40).
That's FOUR 25 milers in 3:10:40.
If you add another 9:20 for the next mile and 385 yards, that's FOUR FULL marathons in 3:20:00 each---back to back, non-stop!!
Not sure what the current Boston Q time is for Women, but I'm guessing it's not much faster than 3:20.
So Camille Herron ran (almost) the equivalent of FOUR Boston Qualifiers---back to back, non-stop!!
That's also EIGHT Half Marathons in approximately 1:40:00 each!!
She is an ELITE athlete of World Class level!!

11-15-2017 11:57 PMI am impressed that she had a beer about 80 miles into the race. A moment of great judgement! In my so-called career as an ultrarunner, this never occurred to me.

11-16-2017 12:23 AMWalt Stack was the legend when it came to drinking beer during a race...in one ultra marathon he supposedly drank a case.
