Coulda Shoulda Woulda. He did what he did. He did not have the motivation to do better than he did in that event and thus his best is what it is. His "score" is what it is. I doubt he cares.

I know you don't like my "time only" approach to the Best Combined Events ratings, but FWIW, Wayde's 0.04 PR in the 100 just moves him that much closer to MJ!
    Johnson's 100-200-400 times add to 1:12.59.
    WVN's times add to 1:12.81.

Using that rating system, Wayde needs a 200 of 19.61 to edge past MJ by 0.01.
(Or any combination of PR's adding to 0.23!!)

I would think a 19.61 is doable for him!!

WVN's potential in the 200m this year will certainly address an ongoing point of debate: is the key to success in the event due to 100m speed, or 400m endurance? If he can go sub-9.9, and assuming he still has WR stamina for the lap, then I think he's most definitely going sub-19.4.

Bolt could surely have run a great 400m in the past but, even if he didn't try, he did run that famous 300m in Ostrava. For a 19.19 man running just below 31s, even if in cold conditions, is surely impressive but would probably have led him to a 44 low 400. 300 and 400 are different worlds.

BTW, WVN can surely run much faster in the 200m given his 100 and 400. I do expect a 19.4/5 from him and a double victory in London.

We should do this for the events with 100 in them, the 100, 1000, 10,000. I bet that someone named Bekele would take that measure. The simple adding of times gives more than four times the weight to the 400.

so Aaron could quadruple the 100 times and double the furlong performances? I suppose.

WVN better worry about the De Grasse kid in 200 or he might get smoked.

True. Just as we wouldn't consider Grace Jackson or Juliet Cuthbert 21.7 sprinters.

Just using pace/100m would work and provide a metric that makes some sense (1:12 means what?); but it would likely duplicate the rankings points to a fair degree.
