He is going to send a big message in Ostrava at 300m and that will be a tremor for the hammer drop at 200m in london. Hold your hats, the little elf means business.

A faster venue and better wind for the 100, plus just more repetitions and he should pick up 30-40 in the 100 while his current 200 is only marginally better than his 100, and that will not be the end state. Assuming that he does not get injured I do not think it will be long before he passes Bolt; the other two he will pass when I runs a hard 200.

The great disappointment is that Bolt never bothered to really try and do an all out 400, circa 2009/2010. If he had gone all out back then, there would not be any argument about the 1-2-4 GOAT.

You're right.... if he had done it, the answer would still be Tommie Smith :-)

If I did my math correct a 19.60 and 9.84 gets him equal to Bolt, which is more realistic.

you know somebody as reached the super-elite when he gets referred to by his first name (note that I say "he"; unfortunately too many people assign first-name status to those of the XX variety no matter what their age/fame).

    oh, ok, rant off

MJ didn't really run the 100m. Do you believe MJ was a 10.09 sprinter? In 1996, I think he was low 9.9x, possibly high 9.8x

His 200m PR is 19.84. Not sure if that's enough to move him to third or not, but I can see him bringing that down to 19.5x later this season, which should be enough for him to pass MJ.

Sorry, I was relying on our host's All-Time Menís 100/200/400 Combined Scoring list, which was last updated on May 31. van Niekerk has, in fact, moved into third:

    Code:
    3867 Bolt 9.58 (1356) 19.19 (1351) 45.28 (1160)
    3815 MJ 10.09 (1176) 19.32 (1329) 43.18 (1310)
    3793 WvN 9.94 (1227) 19.84 (1245) 43.03 (1321)
    3790 Gay 9.69 (1316) 19.58 (1287) 44.89 (1187)
    3745 Blake 9.69 (1316) 19.26 (1339) 46.32 (1090)
