Hull City too....it's brutal when you get relegated....sometimes you just keep going down...Bolton Wanderers also are in trouble.

Meanwhile Sheffield United who just won promotion to to the Championship Division are looking good to be promoted straight to the Premier.

Three demotions in 4 years, and another 45 years to make its way back to the big league.

If a downward slide like that were to happen today, would it cause a team to consider folding? I'm pretty sure it costs a lot more money to keep a team afloat than it did in 1972 (even in today's dollars or pounds), and a relegation today would probably hit a team a lot harder in the pocket.

I don't think Sunderland can afford to get busted down again, so soon after getting run out of the Premier League. It could demoralize the players who are left (those who played in the Premier), as well as the staff and execs, to just enough of a degree that they could run the risk of getting busted down once more, to League Two.

Ten more to go and neck-deep in the snakepit...

Or am I reading the chart wrong and they have 19 more to play? Whichever the case, it doesn't look particularly good...

...and Hull City is not too far from being busted down again as well. They're a point above the danger zone. When was the last time two Premier League teams got demoted in back-to-back years?

Right....they play 46....so yes 19 to go. Lots of more games to lose...

Always home and away...so each side plays the others twice...thus 2(24-1)= 46...

    Nine more weeks to go...

    21 Barnsley 37 7 12 18 37 54 −17 33

    Relegation to EFL League One
    22 Birmingham City 37 8 6 23 25 57 −32 30
    23 Burton Albion 37 7 9 21 26 64 −38 30
    24 Sunderland 37 5 13 19 38 66 −28 28

...and 6 points to dig themselves out of the danger zone. :-(

Unless they go on a nasty streak, and the first 4 teams below them go on a hot streak, Hull City will likely stay in the Champions Division. Sunderland is looking miserable down there, with only 5 wins and 8 games to go.

Wolverhampton is definitely going to the Premier next season. They really have to crack up in order to be forced into a playoff for the final spot. If they make it, would this be their first trip ever to the big league?
