I guess things are getting real here in NE FLA. Schools are closing for the next two days. Forecasting winds up to 100mph on the coast Friday (I live 4 miles 'inland').

I saw a story yesterday that a million people were being urged to evacuate the coastal areas of South Carolina.

Thinking of you, bambam. Hope you're ok.

I think this storm would have to travel a lot further north than the Carolinas to threaten bambam, unless I'm mistaken about his location.

Took a bit of a turn west and now seems like Duval County (Jacksonville) is in some deep shit. I'm inland of Tampa Bay and we're going to get the fringes unless it makes a sharp left.

Stay safe to anyone in harms way.

IIRC, he recently mentioned that he had relocated to Hilton Head, SC, which is an island just off the mainland.

The Beaches (a strip 2 miles wide) were just given the Evacuation Order (!!), but I, on a relatively high lot 4 miles in, am staying. My biggest fear is that I live in a subdivision called, I kid you not, The Woods, and 80mph winds will knock many trees down, potentionally in my yard. Work cancelled for a glorious 4-day weekend . . . spent protecting Fuerte Atticus.

If you're going to tough out a storm like this, you need to do more than batten down the hatches. When Hurricane Gustav came through, I only lost power for 2 days, but my Dad lost power for 2 weeks, and some people lost water and natural gas.
