the GOAT argument is best served for a separate thread elsewhere, since this is a thread for this race only, but Flojo gets very little credit in that department as a 1-year wonder. Better place to look would be Evelyn Ashford, who has so little opportunity in the WC department. Got to remember that people from the era of 1991 onward have a distinct advantage in looking like overwhelming superstars simply because they have the option of a WC every 2 years and those before that did not. But asI said, this isn't the place ot discuss that.

Her consistency though has to be a major factor in her favour. Granted the times have not always been stellar. On the other hand i agree that older era athletes did not have the opportunities to perform as often and also did not have the same training facilities, race preparation, running surfaces or other intangible.

There should not be any doubt that Fraser the greatest female sprinter to have walked the earth.

Race was as expected. She started to celebrate a bit early and thus, the race seemed closer that it should have been.

The only argument you can make is greatest 100m sprinter of all time. Her 200s are way off the rest.

The main argument against her, even if we discount FloJo's WR, is that she doesn't have the fastest 100m of her generation and hasn't broken 10.7.

Don't think there is anyone that suggests that title goes to Flo Jo given her retirement after her one year at the top.

She had a very lond career, but as for consistency... she had a few seasons when she didn't do much. Looking at her world ranking history, she was no. 1 4 times and 7 times in the top 3. Her contemporary Marlies Gohr had 6 no. 1's and 10 top 3's.

Id have to go with Evelyn Ashford, and she had a grace on and off the track that was mesmerizing. SAFP does have a similar grace in stride and would be a worthy successor.
