That's a pretty nice sequence of marks. I wonder if the misses in the State Meet caused her to open lower at the Pan-Am meet. I believe she opened at 1.73.

Just to be clear, Cunningham didn't break the WY record.

She equalled it, joining Charmaine Gale-Weavers RSA 1981, Olga Turchak URS 1984, Eleanor Patterson AUS 2013 on 1.96.

She also moves to =8 on the all-time WJ list

Cunningham's performance has been stellar, but in the AOY discussion, consider that not only did Candace Hill run the 10.98, but in Cali she also took Kaylin Whitney's World Youth record in the 200 in 22.43.

But remember the T&FN voting is for HS athlete of the year, not age-group athlete of the year.

I assume that both Whitney and Alexa Efraimson will NOT be eligible for HS AOY (or even top 10, or appearance on official HS lists), as both are professionals.
    Ditto with Alana Hadley.

Vashti's dad, Randall, jumped 6'8" in high school with a lead leg knee so banged up that his approach was literally a fast walk.
Randall and Sam Cunningham were versatile, world class physical talents.
Sam was California State Meet shot champion and ran under 10 @ 100 yds.

USATF should have wooed Vashti and her handlers to get her to go to Beijing once no once else could get the standard. Having no entrants in the event with the HSer being in the World top 15 is really a shame.
