"Despite the obvious dangers — dozens of people have died in recent years — Potter had been outspoken in his effort to make wingsuit BASE jumping legal in Yosemite."

My guess is his death will be the booster to keep it illegal.

What would a Libertarian say to a guy with a death wish? Sure?

What does a Libertarian and the Easter Bunny have in common?

    Neither are real.

Is this the same guy that broke his leg last year while flying in the wing suit but survived? Its all fun and games and great when it is going well. As I read some posts on Facebook about this, the other side of the coin is that the family and close ones lose someone, and someone has to pay for the locating and cleaning up the mess. Some people are not happy about the public taxpayer being responsible for illegal actions of others.

For me, since we are all going to die, I would rather die doing something I loved with a last minute thrill and an instantaneous death than suffering and dying through disease or something else. However, who thinks that should happen at 43?

There seems to be a fine line between 'Adrenaline Junkie" and "compulsion for self-destruction."

can't disagree with that. One thing I noticed watching the youtube stuff - as if it was some great 'find/reveal' - when watching the support teams or companion jumpers - they were sure 'committed' to the whole thing. - body language - facial stuff etc. either way - crazed

I remember 15 or so years ago, a couple wanted to influence the powers that be to allow BASE jumping in Yosemite by showing how safe it was. The husband manned the video camera while the wife jumped off the top of El Capitan. Her parachute didn't open, so he had a nice video of his wife jumping to her death.
